Orlando Firefighter News

In May of 2009, the Orlando Firefighters held a Rally at the City Hall to urge the City NOT to lay off 48 firefighters, but in spite of the public outcry, the lack of budget won out, and they were laid off.  Ed & Mary Ganster, Founders of Operation Safety 91, attended that Rally last year, and Ed was interviewed and shown on TV news.  His point was that when he had his 4 different heart attacks, the 1st Responders were on the scene within minutes, and Ed has fully recovered.

On Friday, May 7, 2010, it was announced that a Federal Emergency Grant of $8 million was just awarded to the Orlando Fire Dept, and they can now re-instate those 48 lay-offs.  Orlando now has been restored to its full complement, assuring that its people are again adequately covered for all emergencies.

Operation Safety 91 applauds everyone who voiced their concerns about the 2009 cut-back, and shares gratitude that our voices were not for naught. Firefighters - like ALL 1st Responders -deserve our total support and thanks as they are at risk  24/7 to protect all of us.
